Did you know that you can become a "Corporate Flight Attendant" faster than becoming a Commercial Flight Attendant without the intense scrutiny, extensive training and low pay? Corporate Flight attendants aka Contract Flight attendants enjoy higher pay, control over their schedule and opportunities to travel abroad. There are contrasting differences on compliance safety training( 6 days vs 6 Weeks), airplanes ( luxury jets vs commercial aircraft), crew life and layovers.
One of the biggest differences is Corporate Flight Attendants are typically responsible for the costs of their initial training and subsequent follow up on annual recurrent safety training. Whereas if you happen to be hired by a commercial airline ( only 4% of applicants ever get hired) they pay to have you trained and licensed as a FAA121 Flight Attendant but you may or may not get paid for your time in training for up to 6 weeks. Every Airline is different. And once you complete your OE and are released to the line, you may be on reserve at the beck and call of the airline when they need you but your pay is also minimal and it might be hard to get additional flying assignments. A first year commercial flight attendant will make less than $30,000 in the first year.
